KAKSAD was established in 1988.
Vasileia / Karşıyaka is a beautiful village far from main cities and KAKSAD is one of the first associations to be established in Lapithos / Lapta area.
The aim of our association is to carry the Cypriot culture over to new generations, to unite our culture with art, and to empower the youth and help them socialize and keep away from negative behavior.
The small number of our members has increased up to 65 recently.
Karşıyaka Culture and Arts Association has started its activities with folk dancing. In the beginning, the folk dancing was for children 9 to 12 years old, and later a second group was established for children aged 13 – 18. With these two groups of folk dancers, our association has participated in many festivals and shows.
In the 90’s there was a long duration of inactivity.
In the beginning of the 2000’s, the board of the association became active again. The folk dancing group increased to 50 people with the joining of more people from neighboring villages. During these years, the theater group also started its activities. At this period, the costumes of the folk dancing group were paid for by funds raised in activities such as feasts, shows, theater plays. The nostalgia nights were also appreciated. On the nostalgia nights, there were also models displaying the historic clothes of the village.
In the year 2014, board of the association has decided to organize an annual festival at the village. The goal of this festival was to promote Vasileia / Karşıyaka village and entertain the visitors which come to the village. A variety of home-made local products are prepared and are on sale at the festival. Local production helps support home economics, and helps preserve the cultural heritage of the village. Every year, the festival in March and the beach fest in August help promote our village.
