General Goals & Activities of the Association

Goals of the Association:

• Promotion of Vasileia / Karşıyaka , protection of environment, flora and fauna. Keeping the community traditions alive, researching cultural, artistic and social heritage of the community, sharing and displaying the results;
• Keeping the community safe from harmful conduct, contributing to the development of healthy and younger generations who can express themselves. Leading the activities to achieve this goal.
• Promotion and dissemination of modern culture and art in addition to traditional culture and art;
• Leading the efforts aiming to increase the income from agricultural, animal husbandry, and tourism in Vasileia / Karşıyaka.

In order to achieve these goals, the association carries out the following activities:

• Implementing an EU funded action titled “Sustainable Vasileia / Karşıyaka” aiming to transform the village into a zero – waste carbon neutral community.
• Carrying out all sorts of folkloric research and study in northern part of Cyprus and internationally, sharing the results of this research with public,
• Designing hiking trails, organizing activities such as nature walks, festivals, feasts, shows, exhibitions and so on, organizing activities in cooperation with stakeholders,
• Ensuring continuity and sustainability of the mentioned activities,
• Cooperating with other organizations, establishments, associations and/or unions which were established with the same goals,
• Helping those in need,
• Making publications in order to enlighten the community using the elements of media such as newspapers, magazines, books, radio programmes, TV shows, movies, theatrical plays and so on, to carry out efforts to solve national problems such as traffic, health, environment, and so on,
• Providing a healthy work environment for achieving the goals, providing materials such as stationery, technical tools and equipment, furnishings and fixtures,
• Continuing to organize the Syrian Pear (Stone Pear) festival which was named and initiated in 2014. Organizing activities within this event, organizing Syrian Pear Valley Walk and Feast in March (1 day), and Syrian Pear Festival in October (2 days). Organizing various other activities in the rest of the year.
• Establishing and operating gathering places, social and cultural facilities for the benefit of the members to spend their free time in something useful, cooperating with the local community of Lapithos / Lapta in all sorts of activities,
• Receiving aid and accepting donations in line with the legal framework,
• Carrying out income generating activities, shows, and establishing income generating facilities. The income is solely used for the achievement of goals and funding the activities of the association. By no means, can the income of the association be shared amongst the members,
• Protection of the Syrian Pear trees and fruits. Organizing activities to increase the number of trees,
• Continuing the activities of the folk dancing group,

Cooperating and establishing close ties with other similar associations, especially with Black Sea Cultural Association which was signed as sister association in 2015.
